Safety & Security Guidelines
Your safety is our top priority. Follow these simple rules to ensure a secure transaction.
Essential Safety Rules
- Always meet in public: When buying or selling an item, arrange to meet in a well-lit public place, such as a coffee shop, mall, or designated safe trading zone during daylight hours.
- Never share personal financial information: Do not give out your bank account details, credit card numbers, or passwords. Avoid platforms or sellers that insist on completing transactions outside of secure payment methods.
- Inspect before you pay: Always physically inspect the item to ensure it matches the description before handing over any money. If it's electronics, ask the seller to turn it on or test it in front of you.
- Beware of "Too Good to Be True": If an item is listed at a fraction of its market value, or if the seller is extremely eager to close a deal rapidly or offshore, it is likely a scam. Trust your instincts.
Common Scams to Avoid
Our moderation team actively filters out fraud, but you should remain vigilant against:
The "Advance Fee" Scam
A seller asks for a partial payment upfront to "reserve" or "ship" the item before you have seen it. Never pay in advance for an item you haven't physically inspected.
The Overpayment Scam
A buyer sends you a check or fraudulent electronic transfer for more than the asking price, then asks you to refund the difference. The original payment will eventually bounce, leaving you responsible for the "refunded" amount.
Phishing Links
A user sends you a link via chat or SMS asking you to log in to "verify" your account or view extra photos. Always ensure you are on `www.rytok.com` before entering your credentials.
How to Report Suspicious Activity
If you encounter a suspicious listing, or a user who makes you feel unsafe or asks you to violate these guidelines, please report them immediately using the "Report Listing" button on the ad page, or contact our trust and safety team directly at safety@rytok.com.
